In 12 months, Opus Energy has provided over 340,000 business premises with over 4.4tWh of energy – enough to power the entirety of the UK for a whole working week – using just renewable sources.

Last year, 100% of Opus Energy’s electricity was renewable. The average UK supplier provides just 29% renewable electricity. *

The electricity supplied came from a mixture of sustainable, zero-carbon generation sources:

As well as being a leading supplier of renewable energy, Opus Energy also buys sustainable power, supporting over 2,100 independent UK-based generators. Ranging from farmers with wind turbines to large-scale solar sites, every site generates clean, renewable power that goes back into the UK power Grid.

Nikki Flanders, COO, Opus Energy commented: “Supplying as much renewable power as we can has been in response to what UK businesses are asking for. We know that small business owners want to protect the environment and create a sustainable future, and this is something we can deliver on their behalf.

“Our network of UK renewable energy generators is also a source of pride for us. Being able to support small businesses who’ve found that they can generate power to bring in extra income is about more than helping them to be commercially successful. We provide a route to help their business grow, while knowing that we’re all contributing towards a low-carbon future. The return really is better and brighter for the whole of the UK, businesses and consumers alike.”

A 2017 report by the Federation of Small Business (FSB) discovered that FSB members were in favour of low carbon energy, with 41% of those surveyed believing renewable and low carbon energy will be cheaper than fossil fuel in future, compared to only 23% who believe it will never be as cheap. In addition, over one in four (27%) of those surveyed believed that a low carbon economy will create more opportunities than threats for their business.

Nikki Flanders concluded: “We are delighted that Opus Energy is able to help support SMEs in an objective that they’re passionate about. In doing so, we can help to build a brighter, sustainable future while they build their business.”
